Workers work overtime, working through holidays at the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway construction site

Workers are assured to stick to the construction site

Mr. Nguyen Van Mai (born in 1972, Thanh Quoi commune, Can Tho city), a construction worker on the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway at component project 2, has been attached to the construction site for 2 years. Every day, he operates bulldozers, starts working from 7 am and ends around 5 pm. At times when work needs to be accelerated, he often works overtime and overtime is calculated separately.

With a salary of more than 10 million VND/month, Mr. Mai said it is relatively stable, especially compared to work in his hometown. Besides salary, the contractor also takes care of lunch for workers.

On holidays and Tet, workers are rewarded. Especially on these days, if workers still go to work, the working day is doubled. This is a benefit that helps workers have more income when they have to work on holidays, and at the same time creates motivation for workers to feel secure in sticking to the construction site, contributing to ensuring construction progress," Mr. Mai said.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ut Nho (52 years old, Thoi Lai commune, Can Tho city) has also been attached to the work at the construction site. His daily job is to work as a seeker, sewing fabric to spread sand.

On overtime days, he works from 7 am to 7 pm, sometimes lasting until 8 pm. During holidays, including National Day September 2, he still happily stays at the construction site to ensure progress.

According to Mr. Ut Nho, part-time workers are fully guaranteed regimes, wages are calculated by multiplying by 2 or 3. Workers are also additionally compensated and supported with meals during overtime days.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Son - Deputy Director of Ngoc Bao Trading Construction Co., Ltd. said that the unit is focusing on loading, and at the same time preparing the necessary conditions to deploy the next items.

During the construction process, the biggest difficulty before was the sand material source. Up to now, the sand source has basically been supplied, helping contractors have conditions to accelerate the loading on the route.

During holidays, the contractor still arranges construction workers to ensure progress. Workers working on holidays are entitled to allowances, and there are separate bonuses for overtime workers.

Stone resources need to continue to be allocated

Mr. Hoang Quang Tam - Deputy General Director of Ruby Group Construction Investment Company, the unit currently constructing packages 11, 13, 14 and 22 of Component Project 2 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, informed that the source of materials is an issue of particular concern to the contractor.

For sand, the investor has basically allocated enough, helping contractors proactively bring materials to the construction site. Currently, the new stone source is allocated about 25% of the demand, and the remaining part is still being considered and allocated.

Mr. Tam added that when the material source is guaranteed, the group will focus maximum resources to accelerate progress. On the occasion of National Day September 2, the unit organized continuous construction, increased shifts, increased crews, mobilized more machinery, equipment, manpower and organized many construction teams.

Mr. Dang Hoang Vinh - Head of Project Management Department 1, Can Tho City Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board informed that component project 2 section passing through Can Tho City is currently about 62% progress.

Stone for the expressway is mainly mined from An Giang, currently meeting about 40% of the demand. Can Tho City is proposing to the People's Committee of An Giang province to consider expanding and increasing the capacity of stone mines to increase supply.

Contractors are required to increase machinery, equipment, manpower, organize overtime, increase shifts, including holidays and Tet, not to let the construction site be interrupted.
