Ho Chi Minh City is focusing on speeding up the relocation of technical infrastructure for the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong metro line No. 2 to prepare for the groundbreaking ceremony in early 2026.
Recorded at many open-cut locations and stations such as S3 (Dan chu), S7 (Bait Hien), machinery and equipment operate continuously day and night, workers handle complex infrastructure sections located densely on the road.
Due to the construction on crowded routes such as Hoang Van Thu, Cach Mang Thang Tam and Truong Chinh, construction units must have flexible barriers to ensure labor safety, while limiting traffic congestion.
According to Mr. Phan Cong Bang - Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), after the request of the Government and Ho Chi Minh City leaders to speed up the implementation of metro project No. 2, the Board launched a 60-day and night emulation movement with the goal of "Determination to accelerate, double productivity". This is a key stage to handle the remaining work before the project starts construction.

To date, the accumulated construction volume has reached about 70%, of which some stations have completed the entire relocation of technical infrastructure. The restoration work includes medium and low voltage power, water supply and drainage, telecommunications, lighting, trees and traffic lights. Due to limited urban conditions, tangled underground works and many sections arising outside the design documents, handling the scene and technical agreements takes a lot of time. The packages mainly focus on construction from 11pm to 4am to reduce the impact on traffic.

Currently, MAUR is arranging 11 construction teams at the same time at key locations such as CC1 (Ben Thanh - Tao Dan open excavation section), Station S3 (Dan Chu), Station S6 (Pham Van Hai), Station S7 (Ba Hien), Station S9 (Ba Queo) and Station S10 (Pham Van Bach). All aim to basically complete the relocation and reconstruction of technical infrastructure by the end of 2025.

Along with construction activities outside the site, the preparation of project documents is also being promoted to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee before December 15, as a basis for implementing the selection of the main contractor and aiming to start construction of metro line No. 2 around January 15, 2026.
Metro Line 2 is more than 11 km long, including 10 stations (9 underground, 1 above ground) and 2 open-cut sections, connecting from Ton Duc Thang - Ham Nghi intersection to Tham Luong depot with an area of 22.3 hectares. The total investment approved in 2019 is VND 47,890.84 billion. When completed, the route will contribute to significantly reducing the load on the Cach Mang Thang Tam - Truong Chinh axis, connecting the city center with Tan Binh and the Northwest region, and connecting with metro line 1.
According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City plans to allocate about VND10,000 billion per year to implement the project during the construction phase. The city also requires relevant departments, branches and localities to speed up the processing of procedures, apply technology to shorten the time for handling documents, and at the same time strengthen progress monitoring. The entire project aims to be constructed in 57 months, completed and operated in 2030.
