Traffic Police Department recommends after 2 consecutive accidents on the highway

In just two days, August 28-29, two accidents due to not keeping a safe distance on the highway damaged 11 vehicles and caused traffic congestion.

On the evening of August 29, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) of the Ministry of Public Security informed about 2 traffic accidents related to not keeping a safe distance and issued recommendations.

Accordingly, at about 3 pm on August 29, at Km28+700 Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway, passing through Tan Lap commune, Lam Dong province, a chain collision occurred between 7 cars.

The cars were lying close together, occupying one lane, causing traffic congestion in the area. The accident did not cause casualties but damaged all 7 vehicles. Initial verification showed that 6 drivers did not maintain a safe distance from the car running in front.

Previously, at 6:49 PM on August 28, at Km57+200 of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway, passing through Xuan Lung commune, Phu Tho province, an accident involving 5 cars damaged 4 vehicles and caused traffic congestion.

The preliminary cause was determined to be that the driver of trailer truck 21H-016. xx, pulling trailer 21R-006. xx, did not maintain a safe distance. Currently, functional agencies are continuing to verify and clarify.

According to a representative of the Traffic Police Department, the two accidents that occurred in two consecutive days are a warning about the danger from closely following and not maintaining a safe distance on the highway.

On the highway, when the car in front slows down or brakes suddenly, the vehicle operator sticking too close will no longer have enough time and distance to handle it. An initial collision can quickly form a chain, involving multiple vehicles.

Chain collisions on highways not only pose a risk of causing serious damage to life, health and property, but also occupy lanes, causing prolonged traffic jams, affecting the journey of many people and increasing the risk of secondary accidents.

On the side of functional forces, it is necessary to increase manpower and vehicles to relieve traffic congestion from afar... These are serious economic and social consequences if traffic accidents occur on the highway.

According to the Traffic Police Department, checking and handling acts of not maintaining safe distances on highways is not only aimed at deterring violators but also contributes to raising awareness, forming the habit of disciplined driving, proactively preventing accidents; reducing damage to life, health and property; limiting congestion due to incidents and accidents, thereby ensuring traffic on highways is safe and smooth.

The Traffic Police force recommends that vehicle drivers must comply with traffic signs and regulations on safe distance; proactively increase the distance when it rains, the road is slippery, foggy, at night or when the vehicle density is high;

Do not follow and always observe from afar to promptly slow down when the traffic in front shows signs of moving slowly;

Keeping a safe distance is not only complying with the law but also keeping the necessary space to protect yourself and those involved in traffic.
