On the morning of August 29, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) of the Ministry of Public Security recorded that the traffic volume on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway increased due to the need to return to their hometowns and travel during the September 2nd holiday.
Through patrol and control work, the Traffic Police force (CSGT) recorded that the majority of drivers well comply with regulations on keeping a safe distance from cars running in front.
Previously, on August 26th, 27th and 28th, Team 3 of the Traffic Police Department handled 16 cases, all of which were passenger car drivers violating regulations on keeping a safe distance on the Phap Van - Cau Gie - Cao Bo - Mai Son - National Highway 45 - Nghi Son route.
According to a representative of the Traffic Police Department, the goal of inspection and handling is not to fine a lot, but through handling violations to warn and raise the awareness of self-discipline in law compliance of traffic participants and proactively prevent accidents.
In the coming time, the traffic police force will continue to focus on handling violations of not keeping a safe distance, thereby gradually raising the awareness of vehicle drivers, contributing to reducing traffic accidents caused by this behavior.
To thoroughly prevent accidents, all drivers need to strictly comply with regulations on keeping safe distances on highways, even when the risk has not turned into consequences.
Current regulations clearly state that in conditions where the road surface is dry, without fog, the road surface is not slippery, the terrain is flat, the road is straight, visibility is guaranteed, and the safe distance corresponds to each speed specified in Circular 38/2024.
Accordingly, when the vehicle speed is from 60 km/h or less, the minimum safe distance is 35m; over 60km/h to under 80km/h, the minimum distance is 55m. Vehicles running from 80km/h to under 100km/h have a minimum distance of 70m. And traffic from 100 km/h to under 120km/h has a minimum distance of 100m.
Notably, the Traffic Police Department affirmed that in case of increased traffic volume or congestion due to incidents on the expressway, drivers driving vehicles at speeds below 60km/h must proactively maintain a safe distance suitable for vehicles running in front.
This distance depends on the density of vehicles and the actual traffic situation to ensure traffic safety.
And in conditions of rain, fog, slippery road surface, winding terrain, steep passes, limited visibility, drivers must adjust the safe distance greater than the number recorded on the sign or the number specified in favorable weather conditions.
Keeping a safe distance on the highway is not a regulation to make it difficult for drivers, but to create a safety habit to help people protect themselves, their families and the community.
Decree 168/2024 stipulates that car drivers who do not maintain a safe distance from cars running in front will be fined from 4-6 million VND and have two points deducted from their driver's license.
