In the early morning of August 1, the flood in Dien Bien province caused serious landslides on National Highway 12 (the section connecting from Nu Ngam commune to Muong Luan communes).
According to the reporter's records, on the road section of more than 30km long, from Km215 (Nua Ngam commune) to Km246 (Na Son commune), there are about 300 large and small landslides. Of which, there were at least 30 locations with particularly serious landslides, with rocks and soil from the embankment having overflowed, completely burying the road surface.
Many trees were swept away and broken all over the road. Some landslides extended for tens of meters, with an estimated volume of rock and soil of up to thousands of cubic meters, causing complete traffic congestion.

Especially at Km243 National Highway 12 (Trai Bo village area, Na Son commune), a large hill fell across the road, making it impossible for vehicles to move.

Talking to Lao Dong, a representative of Dien Bien Road 2 Joint Stock Company (the road management unit) - said that the unit has mobilized maximum human resources and machinery including excavators, bulldozers and other specialized vehicles to coordinate with local authorities to promptly fix the problem.
However, the large amount of landslides, stretching for many kilometers, combined with the rugged mountain pass terrain, caused difficulties for the construction force.

Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, widespread floods in Dien Bien province have left at least 11 people dead and missing. Dozens of houses were buried and washed away, many villages were isolated.
By 10:30 a.m. on August 1, heavy losses in human lives and property due to floods had been recorded. Of which, 3 people died (1 person in Co De village, Xa Dung commune; 2 people in Tia Dinh village, 1.2 - Xa Dung commune). At least 8 people are missing (2 people in Hang Pu Xi village, 3 people in Chong Su A village and 3 people in Tu Xa B village, Xa Dung commune).
Along with that, more than 30 houses were sunk and buried by landslides in Xa Dung, Na Son, Muong Luan, and Phinh Giang communes.
