Currently, Da Nang has two smart parking lots put into operation at 255 Phan Chu Trinh and 166 Hai Phong Street. Accordingly, the parking lot in Phan Chu Trinh has a capacity of 124 seats and is performing well, attracting a large number of vehicles to park.
Meanwhile, the parking lot in Hai Phong, with a scale of 173 indoor seats and 63 outdoor seats, has not met expectations for exploitation efficiency, the number of vehicles entering is lower than the design, and has not fully exploited investment functions.
At the meeting with voters before the 2025 mid-term session of the 10th term People's Council (term 2021-2026), Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Le Trung Chinh frankly acknowledged the difficulties in developing the parking system in the area.
According to Mr. Chinh, currently, private investors are not interested in participating in building parking lots due to having to spend a large amount of capital but the capital recovery efficiency is low, the payback period is long, not attractive in terms of profits. Meanwhile, the parking lots invested by the city have not achieved the expected results.
According to Mr. Chinh, to limit the situation of widespread and illegal parking on inner-city roads, the city has repeatedly piloted the collection of parking fees on sidewalks. However, actual implementation shows that this measure has not yet had a clear effect.
"The city is continuing to research synchronous solutions, from infrastructure, technology to management policies to improve this situation in the coming time. In addition, there is also a need for people's awareness of the issue of parking," Mr. Chinh emphasized.
