Eliminate" landfill waste by 2027
At Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex (Hoa Khanh ward), Da Nang city is currently focusing on implementing two key waste-to-energy plant projects.
The first project is the Solid Waste Fuel Plant with a capacity of 650 tons/day and night implemented by Vietnam Environment Joint Stock Company and its partners. After a period of delay due to planning adjustment and environmental impact assessment (EIA), the project is currently in the final construction phase. Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Environment said that this plant is expected to be completed and officially put into operation in the third quarter of 2026.
The second project is the domestic solid waste treatment plant with a capacity of 1,000 tons/day and night in the form of public-private partnership (PPP). According to the latest EIA report in September 2025, the project has a total investment of more than 2,777 billion VND, deployed on an area of 5.37ha. The plant uses Martin-style mechanical recording incinerator technology (SITY2000), recovering heat energy to run turbines generating electricity with a capacity of 20MW.
Regarding progress, after the City People's Council abolished the old investment policy in February 2025, the process of inviting new investors has been implemented since mid-2025. According to the legal roadmap, the city will complete investor selection and approve the feasibility study report in the period 2025-2026. Construction and installation of equipment will take place from July 2026 to July 2027.
Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang said that investors are committed to inaugurating the plant no later than May 2027. Mr. Quang shared after visiting similar models: "The new technology waste incinerator has a clean and beautiful landscape, does not cause odors and thoroughly treats pollution".
According to the Secretary of the City Party Committee, to position Da Nang as an international-class tourist city with the goal of 10 million visitors by 2026, environmental sanitation issues must be put first.

Expanding waste-to-energy infrastructure southward
After the merger of Quang Nam, the pressure of waste treatment spread to the southern areas of the city because the landfills in Hoi An and neighboring areas of the old Quang Nam province were all seriously overloaded.
To solve the inter-regional problem, the Da Nang City Department of Finance is calling for investment in the waste treatment and power generation plant project at the Nam Quang Nam solid waste treatment area (Nui Thanh commune).
The project in Nui Thanh commune has a scale of 17.1ha, designed capacity reaching 2,000 tons/day and night. Of which, the domestic waste treatment capacity is 600 tons/day, conventional and hazardous industrial waste accounts for 1,400 tons/day. The project includes items: Industrial waste treatment area (8.4ha), domestic waste treatment area by combustion method (8.6 ha), combined with scrap recycling and electricity production. The project's operating time lasts 50 years.
In early 2026, the Da Nang Department of Finance received investment proposals from the joint venture of Ngoi Sao Xanh Environment Co., Ltd. and Cam Thach Xanh Joint Stock Company. The investor proposed to implement it in the form of approving the investment policy, and at the same time approving the investor without bidding to accelerate the commencement progress.
It is expected that when synchronously deploying factories in Khanh Son and Nui Thanh, it will help Da Nang city treat about 3,650 tons of waste per day.
