On December 14, 2025, an assault on a bus driver on route 67 (under Hanoi Transport Corporation) in Doai Phuong commune, Hanoi, caused a stir when driver P.T.V. assaulted by a group of people. After colliding with a car, the driver got out of the car to check, and was immediately assaulted with strong kicks on the head and face. While the people tried to stop him, the man continued to commit violence, causing driver V. to be seriously injured and had to be hospitalized for emergency care. Previously, also in December, a similar incident occurred in Nghe An, when driver N.V.T was assaulted after reminding passengers to settle down. In early October, in Nghe An, a bus driver of Thach Thanh company was pulled onto the road by a passenger, grabbed by a knee and then repeatedly beaten with a belt.
Obviously, the bus driver is doing a very hard job and is under great pressure from many sides. They not only have to face complex traffic problems, but also suffer disrespectful attitudes from some passengers. Driving on crowded routes, especially during rush hour, not only requires high concentration but also requires the ability to solve flexible situations to keep passengers safe. However, the incident of assaulting the driver has raised the question: Is there enough protection for workers in the public transport sector?
Given this reality, it is necessary to have specific and drastic measures to protect bus drivers. First, authorities need to strengthen monitoring of passenger behavior on public transport, especially in traffic collisions. installing surveillance cameras on buses can help record the entire incident, serving as a basis for handling violent acts in a transparent and fair manner.
In addition, it is necessary to increase training in conflict resolution skills for drivers. Drivers cannot always handle all situations gently. They need support from authorities and transport companies in dealing with disruptive behavior, as well as adequate legal protection to avoid revenge or physical damage.
More importantly, acts of assaulting drivers need to be handled strictly, without leniency, as a way to deter and protect the legitimate rights of drivers.
In reality, without strong measures and proper attention from authorities and society, bus driver assaults will continue, affecting the safety of people working in public transport. We need to take this issue seriously and take concrete steps, not only to protect workers but also to raise the sense of responsibility of each citizen when participating in traffic.
