President Ho Chi Minh once emphasized: “A living example is worth more than a hundred propaganda speeches”, affirming the important role of setting an example among cadres and party members. This thought has profound theoretical and practical significance, especially in the current work of Party building and rectification.
Recently, in the process of mobilizing people to hand over land for major projects in the capital, many cadres and party members have taken the lead as exemplary role models, becoming "unspoken orders", spreading a sense of responsibility and strongly inspiring the people.
Lead by example
In August 2022, when receiving the plan to clear the land for the Ring Road 4 project, the section passing through Tan Chau village (Chu Phan commune, Me Linh district, Hanoi), Mr. Le Van Tu - Party member, Secretary of Tan Chau village Party Cell could not help but worry, when 800m2 of his land was included in the land clearance area. This 800m2 of land is where he and his wife built a spacious 3-storey house with a perennial garden, raising their children to be educated.
However, later, he was the one who encouraged his wife and children to hand over the land, setting an example to propagate and mobilize the villagers.
"If you want people to listen to you, you have to set an example first, you have to take the lead," he said.
At first, many families in the village did not agree to move. Whenever the cadres came to their house, they closed their doors and refused to answer their calls. Undaunted, Mr. Tu and the cadres took turns going to each house to spread the word. That perseverance helped the families agree with the Party and State's policies.
"During the campaign and propaganda process, I chose to communicate in the simplest and easiest to understand way, instead of citing "clause a, article b". Thanks to that, I received the consensus of the people - Mr. Tu shared.
Currently, Mr. Tu's family and neighbors have all moved to live in the resettlement area.
Many positive results
The spirit of setting an example was also applied by Mr. Vu Van Thu - Party member, Head of Van Giap village (Van Binh commune, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi) in the process of mobilizing people to relocate nearly 2,000 graves to build Ring Road 4 in the capital region from November 2022 to December 2023.
Mr. Thu said that at first, when the plan for Ring Road 4 to pass through the cemetery area was first announced, many people expressed disagreement.
At that time, the leaders of Van Giap village coordinated with Van Binh commune to organize many meetings to invite representatives of families and clans with graves to come up to campaign and propagate. From there, Mr. Thu and the village leaders continued to visit each house to propagate and mobilize.
According to Mr. Thu, one of the key factors that helped the process of mobilizing people to achieve the expected results was the pioneering spirit and exemplary behavior of leaders, former leaders, party members... in the village. In particular, the family of the District Party Secretary set an exemplary "pioneer" example in relocating 2 graves; the family of the former Vice Chairman of the former Ha Tay province also relocated 4 graves. Former comrades, leaders of the commune, party members in the Party cell, and veterans also set an example in relocating first, thereby creating motivation and movement among the people.
Mr. Thu said that there are families with more than 200 - 300 graves that need to be relocated. For large families, the mobilization must be very persistent, carried out from the head of the family, to the branches and finally to each household. "For a whole year, I never left my mobile phone. I was always on call so that when people needed me, I would be there. Only when I completed the tasks assigned by the Party, the State and the Party cell, did I feel comfortable in my mind" - Mr. Thu confided.
After only 1 year, the relocation of nearly 2,000 graves in Van Giap village to build the Ring Road 4 of the Capital Region has been completed. Up to now, the Ring Road 4 - Capital Region parallel road project has gradually taken shape...
