On March 9, An Nhon Ward Police (Gia Lai province) said they are coordinating with functional forces to receive and handle 2 mortar shells left over from the war discovered by people.
According to initial information, on the morning of March 7, while driving an excavator to dig foundations to build a fence for a household in Dong hamlet (Tan Duc residential group, An Nhon ward), Mr. Phan Thanh Tien (born 1993) discovered a rusty metal object, about 50cm long, shaped like a mortar shell, lying deep under the underground layer under construction.
Realizing that the object could be dangerous, Mr. Tien immediately stopped construction, kept the scene intact and reported it to An Nhon Ward Police.
Upon receiving information, the police force quickly cordoned off the area, protected the scene, prevented curious people from approaching; and coordinated with the local Military Command to report to superiors to mobilize specialized forces to handle the situation.
During the process of searching the surrounding area, functional forces continued to discover another mortar shell of similar size located near the original location.
The two bullets were then collected and handled by functional forces according to regulations, ensuring safety for people.
