On January 5, many people in Phu Quy Special Zone (Lam Dong province) said that for the past 2 days, gas stations on Phu Quy island have stopped selling due to temporary gas outage.
Many people wait to buy gasoline for vehicles to circulate. Motorbikes with little gasoline are maximally saved by people, only driving when really necessary.

Mr. Nguyen Van Linh - Vice Chairman of Phu Quy Special Zone People's Committee - confirmed that all 3 gasoline and oil business points on the island have announced temporary gasoline outage.
On normal weather days, the 3 gas stations basically meet the needs for daily life, travel and production of people. However, the annual Northeast monsoon season often easily causes supply disruptions due to unsealed cargo ships.
Transport ships have entered the mainland to get gasoline and oil, but the sea is rough, so they cannot return. If the weather is stable, it is expected that there will be goods in 2 more days," a representative of Phu Quy Special Zone People's Committee informed.
Phu Quy Special Zone People's Committee also requested people to rest assured, monitor information from the government, and use fuel economically while waiting for ships to refuel and dock on the island when the sea calms again.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Do Van Thuan - Director of Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority - said that to transport gasoline and oil from Phan Thiet to Phu Quy island, specialized transport ships must be used. These ships are small in size but the weather is currently bad, so the ships cannot carry fuel to the island. Depending on favorable weather conditions in the coming days, gasoline and oil tankers will depart for the island immediately.
Phu Quy Special Zone is about 56 nautical miles from the mainland (Phan Thiet), with a population of about 32,000 people. Every year, at the end of the year and the beginning of the new year, the weather at sea often has high waves and strong winds due to the influence of the Northeast monsoon.
