On the morning of September 10, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters had an interview with Mr. Nong Van Ngoc (29 years old, residing in Tam Kim commune, Nguyen Binh district). Mr. Ngoc is the only person to date who survived the landslide that swept a passenger bus into the river (the incident occurred in Ca Thanh commune).
Currently, Mr. Ngoc is conscious, can talk, can move his arm, has a wound on the top of his head, and has several broken bones on his body.
Mr. Ngoc said that on the afternoon of September 8, he rode his motorbike from Tam Kim commune (Nguyen Binh) to Bao Lac district to be able to help fix the electrical problem the next day.
"At around 5 p.m. the same day, I and many other vehicles were stuck in Ca Thanh commune due to landslides everywhere. We could not continue but could not turn back because there were also many landslides behind us," Ngoc recalled.
Because it was so cold, on the night of September 8, Mr. Ngoc asked to get on a bus to sleep to stay warm. "At about 5am on September 9, I got off the bus and returned to my motorbike, intending to turn back because there was a landslide. I had just taken my motorbike and moved not far when the rocks and soil collapsed right in front of my eyes. The sky and earth went dark. I passed out and when I woke up, I found myself in the hospital," said Mr. Nong Van Ngoc.
After being admitted to the hospital, the patient was examined by hospital doctors and given paraclinical indications and a consensus diagnosis of multiple injuries: traumatic brain injury, cervical spine injury, closed chest injury...
Currently, Mr. Ngoc is still being closely monitored by doctors and given timely treatment with the best methods. "Ngoc is the second child in the family, he has an older sister, his wife just gave birth to a daughter a few months ago," said Mr. Nong Van Duong - Mr. Ngoc's biological father.
It is known that Mr. Ngoc's current occupation is a worker at Cao Bang Electricity Company. On September 9, he was on his way to Bao Lac district to fix the power line when he unfortunately had an accident.
As of 8 p.m. on September 9, Cao Bang province’s search and rescue forces had found 17 victims killed by storms, floods, and landslides in Nguyen Binh district. Rescue forces also took 8 injured people to medical facilities for treatment and are actively searching for 16 missing people.
Most of the victims died due to landslides and floods, with Nguyen Binh and Bao Lac districts being the two localities that suffered the most damage.
