Ms. Ngo Thi Hong Dao, who runs a tea shop at the intersection of Doan Thi Diem and Cach Mang Thang 8 streets (in Cai Khe ward, Ninh Kieu district), said that the roads at this location are currently degraded and are often heavily flooded during high tides and heavy rains.
Particularly on Doan Thi Diem Street, the deeper you go, the more severe the flooding. During the high tide of the 9th lunar month, the water rose to knee-level, affecting the daily life and business of local households.
“Every time the tides come, the shops here are deserted. Flooding makes it difficult to move around, many vehicles stall, and customers are reluctant to stop by to buy things. Every time a car moves on the street, water floods into the house. The flooding continues year after year,” said Ms. Dao.
Also on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, alleys 32 and 144 have recently been flooded, affecting the travel, business, and daily life of local residents. Local residents want these routes to be upgraded and repaired in a synchronous manner.
According to the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu District, during the flood combined with high tides in the ninth lunar month, 13 roads in the inner city of the district were flooded. Of these, 6 roads were completely flooded including: Doan Thi Diem, Ly Thuong Kiet, Le Thanh Ton, Tran Quoc Toan, Thu Khoa Huan, Tan Trao; 7 roads were partially flooded including: Cach Mang Thang 8, Hai Ba Trung, Chau Van Liem, Ngo Quyen, Nguyen Van Cu, Tran Van Giau and Song Hau streets.
Regarding the above issue, Cai Khe Ward People's Committee has just sent a document to the Urban Management Department of Ninh Kieu District regarding the upgrading of Doan Thi Diem Street; synchronously upgrading alleys 32 and 144 to Cach Mang Thang 8 Street; patching potholes on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, Cai Khe Ward.
Through coordination with relevant functional departments to survey the current status of the road and alley, Cai Khe Ward People's Committee has requested the Urban Management Department of Ninh Kieu District to survey and propose upgrading Doan Thi Diem Street, because this road has been upgraded for a long time, due to high tides, the road is currently degraded, causing flooding.
At the same time, survey and fill potholes that are dangerous for traffic participants (some people have fallen) on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, because it is currently degraded due to high tides.
Cai Khe Ward People's Committee also requested the Urban Management Department of Ninh Kieu District to coordinate with the Can Tho City Project Management Board and the Can Tho City Land Fund Development Center to survey and upgrade alleys 32 and 144 to Cach Mang Thang 8 Street in a synchronized manner, to avoid the situation where the elevation between the routes is not synchronized, causing water stagnation and poor drainage, affecting the lives of households.
