On the evening of January 9, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper noted that at the Nguyen Van Linh - 30/4 intersection (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city), the traffic lights were turned off, and many vehicles were moving without any order.
Repairing his car near the intersection, Mr. Nguyen Tan Nam (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) said that the traffic lights in 4 directions were broken for a period of time, causing many difficulties for vehicles. According to Mr. Nam, this is the main road to the provinces, and the flickering traffic lights are very unsafe for traffic participants.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Nam also hopes that, to ensure safety and convenience for traffic participants, the relevant authorities need to regularly review, inspect, and adjust malfunctioning traffic light clusters.
Mr. Nguyen Tan (Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City) said that flickering traffic lights make it easy for traffic participants to fall into the "trap" of fines.
“Decree 168 will take effect from January 1, 2025, which will make people's traffic participation more civilized, but we also need to review the operation of many traffic lights. With this situation, many people can be unjustly fined. Furthermore, there needs to be a thorough solution to handle the problem of sudden light switching or light signal loss, causing confusion for traffic participants,” said Mr. Nguyen Tan.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tan, in cases where traffic lights are broken and fined, it is necessary to check and compare carefully to avoid causing disadvantages to traffic participants.
According to the reporter's observation, at about 18:40, the traffic lights started working again but were still flickering, not displaying the seconds or light color.
At around 18:52, the traffic light at the Tran Hoang Na - 3 Thang 2 intersection also had a light that did not display the number of seconds.
