Relocating and supporting 200 households when hydropower plants release floodwaters in Dak Lak

Dak Lak - Fearing that hydropower plants would release floodwaters and cause localized flooding, the government has supported hundreds of people to evacuate to the National Highway 27 area to set up temporary tents to wait for natural disasters.

On the morning of November 21, the People's Committee of Nam Kar commune, Dak Lak province informed that about 200 people living near the Buon Tua Srah hydroelectric reservoir had proactively left their homes and moved to the National Highway 27 area for temporary shelter.

According to the People's Committee of Nam Kar commune, in order to ensure safety, local authorities have deployed the evacuation of people in low-lying areas, while supporting the movement of people and property to safe places.

For 200 people temporarily residing on National Highway 27, the commune has contacted the hydropower unit to support necessities including drinking water, cakes and food.

The police force is also deployed on duty 24/7, ready to respond to unexpected situations that may occur in high-risk areas.

On the same morning, Mr. Nguyen The Hau - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Phu commune - said: "The authorities have traveled along the Serepok river to conduct a field survey to move nearly 10 households in low-lying areas to safety.

The commune is closely monitoring the flood situation, discharging regulators from hydroelectric reservoirs to proactively evacuate people to safe places. Thereby, trying our best not to cause any human casualties".

According to statistics as of the morning of November 21, the whole Dak Lak province had more than 39,000 flooded houses, 11,586 households isolated and more than 11,500 households evacuated.

Hoa Xuan, Dong Hoa, Hoa Thinh, Hoa My, Tay Hoa, Phu Hoa 1 and Phu Hoa 2 communes are still deeply flooded, many areas are isolated.

The authorities evacuated nearly 10,000 people and rescued more than 500 people from the danger zone. Floods in the province have killed a total of 16 people and left 4 people missing.
