On the evening of September 29, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Quang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Vinh Commune said that the locality is urgently evacuating about 40 people in Thuong My village (about 500 meters from the landslide point at Km51 National Highway 2) to a safe place.
"It is currently raining heavily, some areas of Thuong My village are at risk of landslides, so people have been temporarily evacuated to cultural houses and schools.
The area to be relocated has just experienced flash floods so there is a very high risk of landslides," the leader added.
According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Vinh Commune, the landslide area on National Highway 2 in Nam Buong village cannot be opened to traffic yet. Currently, the whole commune has 2 people missing in the landslide area on National Highway 2, 1 person missing due to flash floods in Thuong My village.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, from September 27 to 29, there was heavy rain in Bac Quang district. One victim named V.T.X (born in 1971) in Viet Vinh commune was swept away by floodwaters and went missing.
At Km51 of National Highway 2, rocks and soil from the high hills buried many vehicles and houses along the road. Currently, National Highway 2 in the landslide area is still blocked.
Ha Giang Department of Transport has a plan to divert traffic through National Highway 2.
Accordingly, motorbikes, mopeds, rudimentary road vehicles, cars, dump trucks with a load capacity of 8 tons or less, box trucks with a load capacity of 3.5 tons or less, passenger cars with 29 seats or less traveling on National Highway 2 to Km 269 turn left to Ngoc Linh, Bach Ngoc, Thuong Binh, Kim Ngoc communes, turn right onto National Highway 279 and go straight to National Highway 2 at Km 225+650 (Pac Ha intersection) and vice versa.
