At noon on February 21, the flow of people from the Mekong Delta provinces driving vehicles in the direction of Ho Chi Minh City to return to work after the Tet holiday increased sharply, causing local traffic congestion on many sections of National Highway 1.
At Luong Phu intersection (Dong Thap province), the number of vehicles from provinces and cities in the direction of Can Tho City, National Highway 60 and National Highway 50 pouring in increased, leading to localized congestion when vehicles stopped at red lights. At this time, the Traffic Police (CSGT) of Dong Thap Provincial Police blocked vehicles from DT878 and DT878C to prioritize traffic on National Highway 1 in the direction from the Mekong Delta provinces and cities to Ho Chi Minh City.

At Dong Tam intersection (Dong Thap province), local traffic congestion also occurred when vehicles stopped to wait for traffic lights. The traffic police force of Dong Thap Provincial Police blocked vehicles from DT870 and DT878 to prioritize traffic on National Highway 1 in the direction of Ho Chi Minh City.
Similarly, at the intersection in front of Tan Huong Industrial Park (Dong Thap province), local congestion also occurred. Traffic police forces had to block and regulate vehicles to prioritize traffic on National Highway 1 from the Mekong Delta provinces and cities towards Ho Chi Minh City.

According to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, at traffic hotspots in Dong Thap province, the traffic police force of Dong Thap Provincial Police is always on duty, regulating traffic in a timely manner, preventing serious congestion.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Anh Tuan - Head of Road Traffic Police Team No. 4 (under the Traffic Police Department of Dong Thap Provincial Police) - said that the traffic volume from the Mekong Delta provinces pouring towards Ho Chi Minh City at noon on February 21 increased sharply compared to normal days, concentrated in large numbers at intersections such as Luong Phu intersection, Dong Tam intersection and the area in front of Tan Huong Industrial Park.
As soon as the volume of vehicles increased, the unit proactively arranged 100% of personnel to be on duty at hot spots, organized remote traffic diversion, flexibly regulated traffic lights and temporarily blocked branch roads such as DT878, DT878C, DT870... to prioritize traffic flow on National Highway 1 in the direction of Ho Chi Minh City. The goal is not to let prolonged congestion occur and limit traffic collisions," Lieutenant Colonel Tuan said.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Anh Tuan, the unit also maintains regular contact, closely coordinates with Highway Traffic Police Team No. 7 (Department of Traffic Police, Ministry of Public Security) to grasp the traffic flow situation on the entire route, and promptly agree on traffic diversion and regulation plans appropriately for each time.
We recommend that people when traveling through the area strictly comply with the orders of functional forces, maintain a safe distance, and do not jostle or overtake recklessly at intersections with large vehicles," Lieutenant Colonel Le Anh Tuan emphasized.
