As Lao Dong newspaper has reported, the section of National Highway 32 connecting from the end point of the inter-regional road extending to Phong Chau bridge (from Tam Nong Regional Health Center to the intersection of gas station No. 08) is about 230m long, and is often crowded with vehicles.
Along with that, houses of people are scattered on both sides of the road, many businesses and even a people's market, the road section is often crowded and cramped.
Now, when the new Phong Chau bridge has been put into use, the extended inter-regional road has also just been completed, the above road section is like a bottleneck in the middle. Therefore, investing in expanding this road section will help traffic to be synchronized and reduce congestion.
Mr. Bui Van Tuyen - owner of a business store in the area at the beginning of Phong Chau bridge in Van Xuan commune - shared: "More and more cars are moving across Phong Chau bridge to go to Viet Tri and vice versa. Therefore, I think it is urgent to expand the road section through the market.
According to the reporter's investigation, the project to invest in upgrading and expanding the road connecting Phong Chau bridge with the inter-regional road was approved by Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee according to Decision No. 2380/QD-UBND dated July 21, 2026.
The project has a total investment of 235.8 billion VND from the central budget according to Decision No. 262/QD-TTg dated February 9, 2026 of the Prime Minister and provincial budget for the period 2026 - 2030.
Of which, central budget capital (arranged according to Decision No. 262/QD-TTg) is 196.596 billion VND; provincial budget capital is 39.204 billion VND.
In the contractor selection plan recently announced, there are a total of 10 bidding packages. Among them, the bidding package: Construction of works, ensuring traffic safety, environmental protection fees is worth more than 100 billion VND (not yet announced for bidding).
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper on the evening of August 28, Mr. Do The Nam - Deputy Director of Phu Tho Regional Project Management Board said that the project is currently in the process of selecting a construction drawing design unit, and is expected to start organizing the selection of construction contractors in November 2026.
Regarding the scale of construction investment, the project will invest in upgrading and expanding the section from Km76+150 - Km81+380 National Highway 32 with a total length of about 4.9 km, including 3 sections:
Section 1 from Km76+150 - Km77+629.39 (1.5km long): Maintain the current status of the road surface, sidewalk design and lighting on both sides of the route.
Section 2 from Km77+629.39 - Km79+172.33 (1.6km long) and section 3 from Km79+61.44 - Km81+380 (1.8km long): Designed for renovation and upgrade with a synchronous scale with a roadbed width of 15.5m, road surface width and reinforced shoulders of 14.5m.
The land area used by the project is about 11.84ha; the estimated compensation, support and resettlement amount is nearly 102 billion VND from the project's funds.
The project is invested with the goal of completing National Highway 32 section Km76+150 - Km81+380, ensuring synchronization with the new Phong Chau bridge and inter-regional road.
From there, strengthen regional connectivity between National Highway 32, Phong Chau bridge and inter-regional roads, creating a convenient connection between the western areas of the province and the old Viet Tri urban center.
At the same time, directly connect National Highway 32 to National Highway 2, Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway and other important traffic routes.
