The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment has just reported on the work of natural disaster prevention, control, and response to storm No. 5 Kajiki.
Accordingly, heavy rain from the afternoon of August 25 to 26 damaged 6 houses in Suoi Hai commune; 58 households in wards and communes: Son Tay, Tay Mo, Suoi Hai were flooded, including 1 household whose house was 70 - 80 cm deep.
Heavy rain also affected 1,600 hectares of rice and crops, fruit trees, ornamental plants, and aquaculture areas.
As of 3:00 p.m. on August 26, the whole city had 14 fallen trees; 5 cars were damaged and no human casualties were recorded due to heavy rain.
The report of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment also said that the water level of some inland rivers in the area is at a high level, in which the Tich River is above alert level 2, the Bui River is above alert level 1. At the same time, the water level in the main lakes in the area is mostly high, many irrigation reservoirs have water levels exceeding the overflow threshold.
In particular, the water level on major rivers (Da river, Red river, Duong river) is still much lower than the water level of alert level 1.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, due to the circulation after the storm and the influence of wind convergence, on the day and night of August 27, Hanoi will continue to have rain, showers and thunderstorms.
Rainfall in the northern area of the city is generally from 50 - 100 mm, in some places over 150 mm. The western, southern and central areas of the city will have common rainfall from 40 - 70mm, some places over 100mm.
Heavy rain will overload the urban drainage system, causing flooding in residential areas, urban areas and low-lying areas, traffic congestion due to flooding and reduced visibility when driving, causing slippery traffic and traffic accidents.
The rain on August 27 will cause localized flooding for many streets with the largest flooding depth commonly from 0.3 - 0.5 m, some places will be flooded deeper; the flooding time is about 30 - 60 minutes, some places will be flooded longer (about 1 - 3 hours).
Notably, heavy rain in a short period of time can cause landslides in mountainous areas, with steep terrain in some suburban communes of Hanoi such as: Ba Vi, Son Tay, Soc Son...
Some low-lying areas in suburban areas of Hanoi need to be on guard against flooding, including: Xuan Mai, Chuong My, My Duc, Huong Son, Phu Xuyen, Van Dinh, Thuong Tin, Dan Phuong, Dong Anh... affecting production and daily life of people.
