Hanoi currently has 30 district-level administrative units (12 districts, 17 districts, one town) and 526 commune-level administrative units (160 wards, 345 communes and 21 towns). The city has not announced the number of wards and communes after the arrangement.
As planned, by April 21, the People's Committee of the commune must complete the people's opinion. The People's Committee of the district summarizes people's opinions in the area and approved the policy of implementing the plan of arranging administrative units at the commune level to summarize the results of the City People's Committee before April 26.
Currently, many districts of the capital have proposed plans to reorganize commune-level administrative units and implement the collection of public opinions.

At a recent meeting with voters, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh informed that the city is working with leaders of districts, towns and cities to "finalize" a specific plan to arrange commune-level administrative units with the spirit of "no interruption, no days, no places".
According to the Chairman of Hanoi, the city currently has 526 communes and wards. Hanoi will comply with the Central Government's direction, in which it will try to reduce about 70% of communes and wards compared to the present.
Mr. Tran Sy Thanh also said that the new communes and wards will not be too big or too small. New commune-level administrative units will be closer to the people and serve the people better.
