On the morning of August 8, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Deputy Director in charge of the Le Thuy Land Fund Development and Investment Project Management Board (Quang Tri province) said that the unit has implemented temporary measures to ensure traffic safety before the situation of 189 manhole covers on the 210 billion VND route being stolen by thieves.
This route connects National Highway 1A to the coastal area of Cam Hong commune. After a short time of use, 189 manhole covers were lost, leaving many manholes exposed, posing a potential risk to the safety of people and vehicles. The authorities then stepped in and recovered the 54 covers.
According to Mr. Dung, due to lack of funding for replacement, the manholes are temporarily covered with square wooden panels, surrounded by stakes and warning ropes. At the beginning of the route, there are also signs reminding people to avoid dangerous areas.
The Committee also hopes that superiors will soon arrange funds to completely overcome the situation before the flood season, and at the same time request the police to investigate and strictly handle the act of stealing the manhole covers.
Currently, temporary measures are still being maintained to limit risks, waiting for a synchronous replacement plan to ensure long-term safety on the route.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on the more than 5km route connecting National Highway 1 with the sea square of Cam Hong Commune (Quang Tri), there was a loss of 189 manhole manhole covers, each hole up to 2m deep, causing a serious risk of accidents.
The route has an investment capital of 210 billion VND, and will be put into use from the beginning of 2025. The theft started in March 2025.
The Project Management Board is making statistics on the damage, coordinating with the police to investigate and handle the case. Cam Hong Commune People's Committee also directed local police to verify the incident.
