Ho Chi Minh City - National Highway 1 (from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to Long An border) will be expanded to 10 - 12 lanes, starting construction at the end of 2026 and completed at the end of 2028.

The City People's Committee has just issued a document agreeing with the proposal of the Department of Construction on the detailed plan to implement component project 3: Upgrading and expanding National Highway 1 (from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to Long An border) under the form of public-private partnership (PPP), BOT contract (build - operate - transfer).

The project will start construction in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2028.

The total investment capital of component project 3 alone is more than VND6,600 billion, included in the total investment of about VND16,285 billion of the entire National Highway 1 upgrade project.

The section of National Highway 1 from Kinh Duong Vuong to the border of Long An (now Tay Ninh province) is nearly 10 km long, and will be expanded to 60 m, including 10 - 12 lanes, replacing the existing 6 lanes.

6 - 8 main lanes in the middle of the route (zingadine speed 80 km/h) will serve fast traffic, with toll collection. 2 parallel roads on both sides (speeding 60 km/h) for motorbikes and mixed vehicles, no fee is collected.

At Binh Thuan intersection - the intersection between National Highway 1, Nguyen Van Linh Avenue and the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway access road, a 3-storey intersection will be built.

The tunnel floor consists of two two two-way 4-lane underpasses, directly connecting Nguyen Van Linh and the expressway access road.

The ground level organizes a central roundabout to regulate and divert vehicles.

The upper floor includes an existing 4-lane overpass and two newly built parallel bridges, along with two pedestrian bridges across the expressway access road and Nguyen Van Linh Avenue.

At Binh Dien Bridge across Cho Dem River, two more parallel bridges will be built, each with 2 lanes, located next to the existing 8-lane bridge.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved two component projects serving the compensation, support and resettlement work for the National Highway 1 expansion project.

Component project 1 is implemented in Tan Tao and An Lac wards (old Binh Tan district), with a total capital of nearly 1,068 billion VND, 101 households have had their land reclaimed, of which 61 households have been cleared.

Component project 2 was implemented in Tan Nhut commune and Binh Chanh commune (old Binh Chanh district), with a total capital of nearly VND 8,543 billion, with about 2,140 households having their land recovered and 1,761 households having their land cleared.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the authorities of the relevant wards and communes to approve the compensation, support and resettlement plan in the second and third quarters of 2026, ensuring clean land to start the project on schedule.
