Contributing to ensuring national energy security
On October 17, 2025, in Xuan Quang commune, Lao Cai province, Vietnam Electricity Group held an inauguration ceremony for the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500 kV Power Line project.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc emphasized that the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen Power Line project is of special importance in ensuring national energy security, contributing to concretizing the direction of the Politburo in Resolution No. 70 on ensuring national energy security.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam's socio-economic growth target at this stage requires the electricity industry to focus on development, increasing annual power generation capacity by about 15-18% (equivalent to 8,000-10000 MW) to ensure electricity supply for economic development, attracting domestic and foreign investment.
"The 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is of special significance, promptly increasing about 3,000MW of power transmission capacity from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid. At the same time, in the future, it will meet the needs of electricity supply cooperation with China; ensure proactiveness and flexibility in direction, operation, balance of electricity supply and ensure national energy security" - the Deputy Prime Minister assessed.

Reporting on the project construction process to Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, Mr. Pham Hong Phuong - Deputy General Director of EVN said that during more than 6 months of implementation, the project has faced many difficulties and challenges from harsh weather conditions, difficult mountainous terrain, complex geology, large site clearance volumes to urgent progress requirements.
"With experience in implementation and high determination and outstanding efforts of the units, the project is always implemented urgently, synchronously and effectively. By September 30, 2025, the project had successfully energized the shock absorbers, qualified to complete the procedures to put the project into official operation" - said an EVN representative.
Taking care of and protecting the rights of workers at the construction site
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Van Anh - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (Vietnam General Confederation of Labor) - emphasized that the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV Power Line Project, a national key project, is a symbol of the spirit of "Patriotism Emulation", a specific product of the emulation movement "Promoting the development of synchronous and modern infrastructure; practicing thrift and fighting waste" launched by the Prime Minister.
According to the Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, this is a project jointly launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and EVN with the theme: "Three pioneers - Two responsibilities". The emulation movement at construction sites has become an inspirational flame, connecting the will of tens of thousands of cadres, engineers, and workers, fostering the spirit of solidarity and determination of workers in the common aspiration of "Completing as soon as possible, safest, most effectively".
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor always accompanies the electricity industry in launching an emulation movement to promote initiatives, improve labor productivity, care for and protect the rights of union members and workers. Trade unions at all levels in the industry were present at every important moment of the project. Since the start of construction, through the arduous days of hot weather or storms, when each group of workers had to stay in high hills, wade in the wind and rain to build poles and pull ropes, until the entire line was energized today" - Mr. Phan Van Anh emphasized.
