According to information from Vietnam Electricity Group, at 11:12 p.m. on September 30, 2025, the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV Power Line project was successfully energized, completing 8 months ahead of schedule according to the project investment policy decision approved by the Prime Minister.
Previously, on September 29 and 30, 2025, the 500kV Lao Cai transformer station phase 2 and the 500kV roadbeds at the 500kV Vinh Yen transformer station were also successfully energized.
The 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is a national key project, with the scale of the project being a double-circuit 500kV transmission line with a total length of 229.5 km, with a total of 468 electric pole foundation locations.

The total investment of the Project of more than VND 7,410 billion is arranged from the loan capital of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) of 80%, and the counterpart capital of EVN is 20% of the total investment.
In addition, the Lao Cai 500kV Transformer Station Project Phase 2 with a total investment of more than VND 1,564 billion has also been completed with the construction and energization of the 500kV distribution yard and the 500kV transformer to synchronize with the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project.
After being put into operation, the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line is capable of transmitting about 3,000 MW from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid and increasing the ability to import electricity.
At the same time, it creates strong connections between areas in the power system; improves safe and stable operation for the national power system; reduces power loss in the transmission grid; increases EVN's power production and business efficiency.
After successfully energizing the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV Line project and the Lao Cai 500kV Transformer Station project and the connecting 220kV lines, EVN, Power Project Management Board 1 will coordinate with relevant units on the construction site to continue completing the project and related administrative procedures.
From there, put the project into operation in early October 2025, practically to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025) and to celebrate the first Congress of the Government Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term and the 14th National Congress of the Party.
