On January 5, the Criminal Police Department, Quang Tri Provincial Police said that the unit had just chaired and coordinated with the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department, professional departments of the Provincial Police, Ba Don Ward Police and Police of Tan My, Le Thuy, and Cam Hong communes to successfully break a case of organizing gambling and gambling in the form of online games.
Through initial investigation, functional forces identified the group of subjects led by Nguyen Van Tho (born 2004, residing in Tan My commune, Quang Tri province). The subjects organized gambling on HitClub, Sun Win, Go88 game portals, and also carried out acts of supporting withdrawal of gambling money to illegally profit.
This group operates in an organized manner, closely linked, and assigns specific tasks to each subject. To conceal criminal acts, subjects use anonymous social network accounts, establishing secret associations and groups to organize criminal activities.
During the struggle, the police force worked with the subjects, and at the same time inspected and extracted electronic data related to online gambling activities. Before the collected documents and evidence, the subjects admitted all acts of violating the law.
Initially, the investigating agency determined that from the beginning of 2025 to now, Nguyen Van Tho and subjects Vo Van Dat (born 2000), Tran Van Bao (born 2005), Tran Van Nhan (born 1997) all residing in Tan My commune; Doan Kim Hoa (born 1991, residing in Le Thuy commune); Phan Thi Hien (born 1983, residing in Ba Don ward) have participated in gambling in the form of online games.
The total amount of transactions related to gambling activities of this group of subjects was determined to be about 100 billion VND. In addition, Tho's group also carried out acts of supporting the withdrawal of gambling money from game portals to illegally profit.
The Investigation Police Agency of Quang Tri Provincial Police issued an emergency detention order and decided to temporarily detain the above 6 subjects to serve the investigation.
Currently, the Criminal Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police is continuing to expand the case, investigate, verify and clarify the roles and actions of related subjects, and at the same time handle them strictly in accordance with the law.
