Power outage due to sudden increase in consumption
The hot summer heat wave caused the peak capacity of the national power system to set a new record on June 2, 2025 with 51,672MW at 1:40 p.m. In the North, the new record was set at approximately 26,500MW at nearly 10pm.
In Hanoi, June 2 was recorded as a hot day, with high demand for electricity. According to EVN Hanoi, the peak capacity in Hanoi reached a new record of 5,430MW at 2:00 p.m., but the consumption output has not yet set a new record when it reached 110.9 million kWh on June 2, 2025. When the demand for electricity increases dramatically, there is also a local power outage in some districts in Hanoi.
Talking to Lao Dong reporter, EVN Hanoi representative informed that the city has no policy of cutting off electricity in districts and towns in the area. Power outages may only occur locally at certain locations or in each family.
"It is also possible that the demand for electricity increases due to the heat, causing a surge in pressure in each household. In the area, if there is a power outage in any area, the electricity company will handle it immediately upon receiving the information" - this representative stated.
Limit the simultaneous use of large-capacity electrical equipment
For households, prolonged hot temperatures not only affect their daily activities but also reduce the performance of electrical equipment, increase the risk of overload, apt apt incidents, and even pose a higher risk of fire and explosion than normal.
"We have proactively prepared plans to renovate, upgrade capacity and level the power grid to ensure safe, continuous and stable power supply for customers. However, during peak hours, the risk of local overload is still tiem nang.
Therefore, EVN Hanoi recommends that people should use a reasonable air conditioner, limit the simultaneous use of large-capacity electrical equipment to reduce the load on the power grid. This not only helps ensure electricity efficiency but also limits sudden increases in electricity bills" - EVN Hanoi said.
EVN Hanoi also recommends that customers, offices and production places join hands to save electricity by turning off unnecessary electrical equipment, limiting the use of high-power equipment during peak hours from 12pm to 3pm and 10pm to 24am every day.
At the same time, people should adjust the air conditioning temperature to 26 - 270C or higher, combined with fans to both save electricity and avoid overloading the power grid, while preventing the risk of power grid fires, power stations and in residential areas.
