National and Northern electricity consumption capacity hit new record
According to information from the National Power System Operations and Market Management Company (NSMO), at noon on June 2, 2025, the national electricity consumption capacity recorded a record high with a peak capacity of up to 51,290MW, exceeding 1,757MW compared to the peak in 2024 (49,533MW).
Quick information from Hanoi Power Corporation, at the peak of the lunch, recorded the peak capacity in Hanoi that reached a new record with 5,430MW, exceeding the peak of 2024 (5,263MW). According to the Northern Power Corporation, the power consumption in 27 provinces/cities in the North (from Ha Tinh back out, except Hanoi) in the peak this afternoon also reached a new record when reaching 17,400MW, over 100MW compared to the peak of 2024 (17,300MW).
According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, in the past two days, the Northern region has been experiencing the most intense heat from the beginning of the summer. Most of the North and North Central Vietnam recorded the highest common temperature of 37–39 ° C, many places exceeded 40 ° C such as Bac Giang (40.1 ° C), Lang Street - Hanoi (40.2 ° C). The fierce heat and low humidity at 40–45% have made the demand for electricity soaring, especially for cooling devices.
Load demand is expected to increase significantly
According to EVN, based on the developments of hydrometeorology in previous years, June is expected to be the peak month of hot weather in the Northern region, the demand for loads will increase significantly, the maximum capacity of the Northern power system is expected to reach 27,580 MW.
Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, EVN requires units and Power Companies in the Northern region to increase on-duty and prepare solutions to ensure power supply EVN affirmed.
Informing the press, EVN said that the Northern Power Corporation will proactively coordinate with NSMO to implement the shift of small hydropower generation hours in the North when necessary in June 2025 to ensure increasing the available capacity to the peak of the Northern power system.
Power General Corporation and power generation units ensure enough fuel for power generation according to system demand; Strengthen inspection and supervision of power plants, especially coal-fired thermal power plants in the North to ensure the feasibility and reliability of power plants, absolutely not allowing incidents to occur during the peak months of the dry season.
The National Power Transmission Corporation ensures the highest level of visibility of power lines and equipment; continues to strengthen the review and effective implementation of solutions to reduce transmission grid incidents, especially in the dry months of 2025.
Power Corporation/power Company continue to closely coordinate with local authorities to implement power saving and load control solutions. Develop and publish according to regulations on annual, monthly, weekly, and daily operation plans/ways, including plans to deal with extreme situations with the risk of imbalance between electricity supply and demand, proactively report to the Department of Industry and Trade of provinces and centrally run cities.
To ensure electricity for economic development and people's lives in all situations; at the same time, reduce difficulties in operating the power system during the dry months and prolonged hot weather, minimize the risk of electrical incidents due to high demand for electricity - especially in the North, EVN hopes to continue to receive the sharing and active coordination of people and customers using electricity through thoroughly using electricity economically, especially during peak hours of noon (13:00-150000 - 23:00 and evening (21:00 - 23:00).
In particular, pay special attention to reasonable use of air conditioners, only turn on air conditioners when really necessary, set the temperature at 27°C or higher. At the same time, pay attention not to simultaneously use many large-powered electrical equipment during peak hours. The thorough use of electricity-saving electricity also reduces the risk of electrical incidents and limits the situation of high electricity bills - EVN recommended.
