Since the beginning of the year, African swine fever has appeared in 30/34 provinces and cities across the country. Localities neighboring Gia Lai province such as Dak Lak, Quang Ngai, Da Nang have recorded many outbreaks with complicated developments.
In Gia Lai, since the end of June, 8 outbreaks have been detected in 12 livestock households in 11 villages and hamlets of 8 localities including: Hao Duc (An Nhon Dong ward), Tu Cung (Tuy Phuoc Dong commune), An Dien Bac (Cuu An commune), Duc Hung ( Ia Nan commune), Canh An 2 (Tuy Phuoc Tay commune), Glung B (Chu A Thai commune), My Thanh (An Hao commune) and Hrak (Mang Yang commune).

The total number of sick pigs destroyed was 470, weighing more than 33 tons. Of which, 443 were pigs and dairy pigs, 27 were sows and breeding men.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province, prolonged hot weather has reduced the resistance of livestock. In addition, the conditions for small-scale livestock farming, not ensuring biosafety, along with the existence of pathogens in the environment, make epidemics more likely to arise.
Currently, the African swine fever vaccine is an antitoxin vaccine, not yet widely deployed nationwide, so the risk of further outbreaks is very high.

To prevent the epidemic from spreading, the province has established 4 epidemic control posts on key national highways: Binh De fort (National Highway 1, Hoai Nhon Bac Ward), Song An fort (National Highway 19, Cuu An Commune), Ia Khuol fort (National Highway 14, Ia Khuol Commune) and Ia Le fort (National Highway 14, Ia Le Commune).
Through control, the authorities discovered 2 cases of transporting pigs out of the province without quarantine certificates. Test results showed that the pigs were positive for African swine fever virus. All 68 pigs on the two vehicles, with a total weight of more than 9 tons, were destroyed. At the same time, transfer the dossier to request the People's Committees of Hoai Nhon Bac Ward and Quy Nhon Tay Ward to impose a fine of VND 7 million/case.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has distributed 4,000 liters of disinfectants to localities to serve the cleaning and detoxification of barns. At the same time, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine is directed to coordinate with local authorities to strengthen inspection and supervision, especially in areas with epidemics.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has also worked with localities on disease prevention and control, and directed the handling of the situation of dumping dead pigs into the environment. This condition has now decreased significantly.
As Lao Dong has reported, since the end of June, the Van Phong irrigation canal system through Binh An, Binh Hiep, Hoa Hoi communes... has been seriously polluted due to dead pigs being thrown down. Many remains are in the process of decomposing, expanding, giving off a strong stench and getting stuck at the discharge gates, seriously affecting the environment and people's lives.
