After the merger, Gia Lai province currently has about 444km of dykes, of which more than 431km are concentrated in the eastern area - old Binh Dinh province. The dyke system plays an important role in storm and flood prevention, protecting people's lives and property, and serving socio-economic development.
However, many dyke and embankment lines after being invested have not been maintained and maintained regularly, leading to degradation, reduced lifespan and potential safety risks during the rainy and flood season. Currently, only some lines are allocated annual maintenance funds.

Previously, the old Binh Dinh Provincial People's Council issued a resolution stipulating the content and tasks of spending on maintenance, repair and emergency handling of dyke incidents. Meanwhile, the old Gia Lai province, due to the small and fragmented dyke and embankment system, did not have the need to issue a separate resolution.
To ensure the management and use of maintenance and repair costs and dike incident handling in accordance with regulations, in accordance with reality and uniformly throughout the area after the merger, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Council has passed a resolution stipulating the content and tasks for spending on this field.
According to the resolution, the level of maintenance and repair of dykes is implemented according to norms, unit prices and current financial spending regimes issued by competent authorities.
The funding is allocated from the provincial budget to carry out maintenance, repair and incident handling for the dyke system managed by the Department of Agriculture and Environment. The commune budget ensures funding for routes managed by localities according to decentralization, suitable to balancing capacity and other legal capital sources.
