According to Lao Dong newspaper reporters, on the streets around Hoan Kiem Lake, the Opera House, and walking streets, motorbike parking fees range from 50,000 to 70,000 VND, while the normal price is only 5,000 to 10,000 VND.
Car parking lots around the central area list prices from 200,000 - 400,000 VND/time. Despite such high prices, there is still no convenient place to park your car near Hoan Kiem Lake.
Residents around Hoan Kiem Lake said that increasing parking fees has become a “custom” during holidays and Tet, especially in crowded areas. Many people living near parking lots have opened their own parking lots at prices many times higher.
A spontaneous parking attendant said that their parking price of 70,000 VND is the cheapest, but by midnight, even if it's 100,000 VND, there won't be any parking space left.
“We know the price is high but there is no other way because most of the parking lots are full. Many people go to Hoan Kiem Lake from 3pm, if we don’t park early, there will be no place to stand” - Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (25 years old, Ha Dong) shared.
Ms. Ngo Mai Anh's family was shocked by the price of parking a car when they were informed that it was 400,000 VND/time. If they did not park, they should move quickly because there were many other people waiting in line.
In Hanoi, the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and Opera House area are the major focal points of this year's countdown event.
