At 8:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025, Ha Mai Border Control Station discovered a transport ship in distress at coordinates 20°44'29"N - 107°28'53"E, South Southeast of Ha Mai Island, Ngoc Vung Commune, Van Don District, Quang Ninh Province.
After receiving the information, Ngoc Vung Border Post (Quang Ninh Border Guard) quickly deployed forces and vehicles to the scene for rescue.
At 5:20 p.m. on January 12, 2025, the rescue team successfully approached the HUA XIN 168 ship. There were 3 Chinese crew members on board.
Currently, the crew members are in stable health, but the ship's main engine is damaged, the propeller is broken due to hitting a rock, and water is flooding into the engine room. Repairs are expected to be completed by January 17, 2025.
Previously, the ship HUA XIN 168 (1,100 tons, 52.2 m long) departed from Fangcheng port (China) at 4:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025, scheduled to arrive in Hai Phong (Vietnam) to transport construction materials.
However, at around 4:00 a.m. on January 10, 2025, when moving to coordinates 20°44'N - 107°28'E, the ship's main engine broke down. Big waves and strong winds pushed the ship to drift and run aground on the rocks in the South East of Ha Mai Island.
Immediately after the incident, the captain contacted the Chinese agent to inform T&TA Joint Stock Company (a shipping agent in Vietnam) about the ship's situation and the incident that occurred for repair.
Currently, Ngoc Vung Border Guard Station has sent a team of vehicles and 5 officers to directly support rescue, ensure food, drinking water, and medical care for victims until the machine failure is resolved.
