After the merger of 3 provincial-level administrative units: Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh, Phu Tho province will play the role of the Northwest gateway of Hanoi and the Red River Delta region. Planning work is of particular concern to Phu Tho province, traffic planning ensures inter-regional and multi-modal connectivity (road, railway, waterway), taking advantage of important economic corridor locations and synchronously developing modern infrastructure (highways, national highways), towards connecting with Hanoi, neighboring provinces and the region, with the goal of green, sustainable, promoting socio-economic development.

In recent years, many key inter-regional transport projects, with a total investment of hundreds, thousands of billions of VND, have been and are being invested and implemented in the province such as: Inter-regional transport road connecting Ho Chi Minh Road with National Highway 70B, National Highway 32C of Phu Tho province to Yen Bai province (now Lao Cai province); parallel railway Hanoi - Lao Cai (National Highway 2C - Hop Thinh - Dao Tu section); Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway, Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway...

Realizing the goal of becoming one of the growth poles of the Capital region
Such as the inter-regional traffic route connecting Phu Tho - Lao Cai (total investment of 2,120 billion VND), which has put into use more than 50km of main route length. This project has created a new "bloodbone" traffic axis, new development potential for the area of 3 old districts: Tam Nong, Cam Khe, Ha Hoa, especially increasing the connectivity between industrial zones/clusters in the above localities and neighboring areas, as well as increasing the connectivity between Phu Tho and Lao Cai provinces.
Or the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway helps connect Hanoi Capital, Phu Tho with the Northwest region, with a total phased investment of nearly 10,000 billion VND, which is currently being urgently constructed. This route has strategic significance, helping to reduce the load on National Highway 6, remove infrastructure bottlenecks, and increase regional linkages to promote tourism, agriculture, logistics, and attract investment... ensuring national defense and security, and improving people's lives.

According to a report by the Department of Construction, Phu Tho has more than 31,000km of roads, nearly 680km of inland waterways and nearly 113km of national railways with 13 stations. In which, roads alone have more than 131km of expressways, 941.9km of national highways, 1,898.5km of provincial roads, 1,438.8km of urban roads and 25,435km of rural traffic roads; the rate of rural roads being reinforced reached 81.5%.
In the future, Phu Tho province will continue to prioritize resources to invest in key traffic routes with inter-regional and inter-provincial connectivity, such as: Viet Tri - Hoa Binh Expressway; Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh road and renovation and upgrading of National Highway 6 Xuan Mai - Hoa Binh section; Ring Road 5 of the Capital project (section from Vinh Thinh bridge to IC5 intersection); upgrading and expanding important national highways, Ho Chi Minh road...

Along with roads, regional railway infrastructure in Phu Tho province is also being strongly invested by the Central Government and the province. In particular, within the national key project: Investing in the construction of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, Phu Tho province has also just started construction of Phu Tho Station, an important link in the railway line.
