On March 4, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tuyen Hoa district (Quang Binh province) said that the thunderstorm lasting more than 20 minutes on the afternoon of March 3 caused 37.1 hectares of corn in the locality to fall.
Of which, the damage was concentrated in Thuan Hoa commune with 12 hectares; Dong Hoa commune with 17.1 hectares; and Thach Hoa commune with 8 hectares.
This affected corn area has been mainly planted by farmers since the beginning of January 2025, currently in the corn generation stage. Many planting areas in the Gianh River bank area have fallen and are lying around the than. In this situation, people are urgently rebuilding trees and uprooting them to save damage.
According to statistics from the agricultural sector of Tuyen Hoa district, the whole district currently has 1,200 hectares of corn, expected to be harvested in May 2025. However, after the storm, many corn areas fell down in large numbers, affecting the growth and development of the plants, leading to the risk of reduced productivity during the harvest.
To minimize damage, authorities recommend that people urgently rebuild trees, reinforce the roots, and supplement nutrients to help the trees recover better.
Currently, the People's Committee of Tuyen Hoa district continues to review and count the level of damage in the affected areas.
In the face of complicated weather developments, the agricultural sector recommends that people closely monitor the situation, take timely plant protection measures, and minimize risks caused by natural disasters.
