Special historical mission
80 years ago, in the context of a nascent revolutionary government, facing countless difficulties and challenges, the People's Security Force (ANND) was established with a special historical mission to protect the Party, protect the government, protect the people and the socialist regime.
General Luong Tam Quang - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Public Security, Minister of Public Security - affirmed this at the national-level scientific conference "Promoting the glorious tradition, the People's Security Forces maintain the role of "sacred sword" protecting national security in the new era of development".
Right from the early days of its establishment, the Security Force quickly affirmed its leading role in the fight against internal and external enemies, protecting revolutionary achievements. The victory of successfully solving the case at No. 7 On Nhu Hau street, now Nguyen Gia Thieu street (Hanoi), on July 12, 1946, became a brilliant milestone in the history of construction, combat and growth of the People's Security Forces. With that meaning, July 12 every year became the Traditional Day of the People's Security Forces.
80 years accompanying the country in any conditions and circumstances, the People's Security Forces have always shown absolute loyalty, affirming the role of a key and reliable armed force, especially of the Party, only knowing that while the Party is there, we are still there, being a sword, a steel shield to protect the Party, the State and the People.
During the resistance wars against France and the United States, the Security Force relied on the people, proactively building bases, collecting information, fighting against counter-revolution, protecting the government and actively operating in the secret front.
After 1975, the Security Forces participated in sweeping the remnants of the army, maintaining security in the newly liberated area, fighting Fulro, protecting the border and contributing to maintaining political stability and national security.
In the renovation process, the Security Forces have advised on many guidelines and policies to ensure national security; proactively implemented measures, not to be passive or surprised, contributing to protecting the Fatherland early and from afar.
Building a solid people's heart formation to protect national security
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang - former member of the Politburo, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council - stated clearly that the 80 years of construction, combat and growth of the ANND force affirms a truth of law: At each turning point of the Vietnamese revolution, maintaining national security, political stability, protecting the Party, protecting the State, protecting the people and the socialist regime is always a prerequisite for the country to develop.
The "sacred sword" position of the People's Security Forces is not just a simple affirmation of functions and tasks, but the crystallization of many fundamental factors: The absolute and direct leadership of the Party in all aspects; firm political bravery; high combativeness; maturity through revolutionary practice; close blood ties with the people; spirit of dedication, ingenuity, courage, creativity; capacity to self-innovate and self-improve to meet the requirements of tasks in each historical period.
In the new era of development, the thinking about national security protection needs to continue to be innovated and developed in a comprehensive, proactive, modern, inclusive, serving and creating development direction.
Protecting national security in new conditions requires improving the quality of research, strategic forecasting, strategic advice and implementation organization. Building a solid People's Security foundation, a solid People's Security posture associated with building a solid people's heart posture is a strategic and long-term issue.
Modernization of the People's Security Forces must be placed in the overall modernization of national security, associated with the development of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and the development of security industry, modern, strategically autonomous, and dual-use. Protecting national security in the new era of development requires increasingly close and effective coordination between the People's Police and the People's Army, the diplomatic sector and departments, ministries, branches, and localities.
To celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of the People's Security Forces (July 12, 1946 - July 12, 2026), from July 9 to July 12, 2026, the Ministry of Public Security in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee will organize a series of events "Peaceful Fatherland" in the Capital. Many art programs, exhibitions and experiential activities will be organized to recreate the journey of building, fighting and maturing of the People's Security Forces, and at the same time spread the value of peace, patriotism and gratitude for the silent contributions of generations of officers and soldiers.
