Pothole, pothole" right in the center of the tourist city
Vuong Thua Vu street, An Hai ward (Da Nang) has long been known as one of the bustling traffic routes, concentrating many service establishments and welcoming a large number of tourists passing by. However, just turning into the road connecting to Chinh Huu street, a completely opposite scene immediately appears. People call this an infrastructure "black spot", where the lives of dozens of households in group 84 have been disrupted for many years.
This section of road, about 200m long, is actually just a narrow, seriously degraded dirt path, densely packed with "potholes and potholes". Every time it rains heavily, the whole road turns into deep puddles of water, muddy and dusty, making people's travel extremely difficult. On the contrary, in the sunny season, dust flies everywhere whenever vehicles pass by.
Ms. Nguyen Vo Bien, a resident living in group 84, An Hai ward, sadly shared: "It's miserable because the infrastructure is messy one, then miserable because there is no house address for ten". Sharing the same frustration, Mr. Luong The Chien, a long-time resident here, said that this area was originally an old train track. After removing the tracks, the road was opened but has been "forgotten" ever since.
It is paradoxical that right in the middle of the city, there is a messy dirt road, even far behind rural infrastructure. Due to the complete absence of drainage systems, whenever it rains, this area is isolated, water overflows into the yard, rushing into the house, making it impossible for us to react in time," Mr. Luong The Chien said bitterly.
Mr. Le Trong Phu, Team Leader of Group 84, confirmed that the flooding situation here is often at a level of 50-60cm when there is heavy rain. People have repeatedly petitioned to all levels of government with the only desire to have a clean and stable road to feel secure in life, but that hope has been prolonged year after year.
Unfinished project, people eagerly waiting
Regarding people's reflections on flooding and degraded infrastructure in this area, the Da Nang Civil, Industrial and Technical Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (Management Board) has issued a specific written explanation. The road section that people reflect is the Chinh Huu extended road project, belonging to the An Cu Residential Area Technical Infrastructure Project 4. Project file, the Chinh Huu extended road (from Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc street to Vuong Thua Vu street) has a total length of 730m, a cross-section of 10.5m wide. However, the project implementation is falling into an unfinished state, not continuously due to bottlenecks in site clearance. In 2022, the project completed construction of 220m; by 2023, it completed an additional 200m of drainage system and asphalt concrete.
The bottleneck lies at the end section about 200m long adjacent to Vuong Thua Vu street - right where households in group 84 are living. The Management Board said that this section has not yet been cleared, leading to the contractor being forced to temporarily suspend construction from 2024. To temporarily overcome the suffering for people during the rainy and storm season, in November 2025, the Management Board committed that immediately after the weather is sunny and dry, the units will focus manpower to restore the road surface and level the protruding and bumpy locations to ensure safe travel for people.
