Synchronous investment in water supply system
Faced with the complicated developments of the dry season and the shortage of domestic water in many rural areas, Ca Mau decided to invest in many urgent projects to supply fresh water to people. According to the policy approved by the Provincial People's Committee, in the period 2026-2030, the province will build 5 new projects and upgrade and expand 1 centralized rural water supply project, with a total capacity of about 11,200 m3/day and night.

It is expected that about 6,000 households in Dat Moi, Nam Can, Da Bac, Khanh Hung, Tran Van Thoi, Dat Mui, Khanh An, Bien Bach communes will have access to stable domestic water sources. The total investment of the project is more than 110 billion VND, with implementation time from 2026 to 2028.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau province, currently about 2% of the province's population still lives in areas without fresh water sources for exploitation, and is dependent on rainwater. The shortage of domestic fresh water in the dry season occurs frequently, greatly affecting people's lives.
Many places are still thirsty for fresh water in the dry season
In Thanh Tung hamlet, Bien Bach commune, during the peak dry season, people have to cherish each jar of rainwater to use. This area does not have a fresh groundwater source, and the well water is contaminated with alum and salt, so it cannot be used for daily life.

Although a centralized water supply system has been invested in, due to the long distance and small pipelines, some households still cannot access it. Many families have to buy water from elsewhere to transport at high costs to maintain their lives.
Similarly, in the area of Khanh Thuan commune (old), now belonging to U Minh and Nguyen Phich communes, people live scattered in the production forest, there is no standard groundwater source, surface water is heavily potassium-contaminated. The main source of domestic water is rainwater stored in jars, only enough for drinking; when depleted, it is necessary to buy water from afar, which is costly and inconvenient.

Faced with the above situation, in addition to investing in centralized water supply projects, Ca Mau province is also implementing solutions to build freshwater storage tanks for domestic use. In 2026, it is expected to build 30 storage tanks in areas with difficult water sources.
Through review, there are 45 locations in 21 communes and wards eligible for installation. However, due to limited resources, specialized agencies will prioritize places with severe water shortages that have not been supported. Reservoirs will be arranged in convenient locations for people to take water and ensure effective management and use.
Investment in water supply systems and water storage works is expected to contribute to reducing difficulties, improving adaptability to drought and saltwater intrusion, and gradually stabilizing the lives of rural people in Ca Mau province.
