From July 1 to now, the multi-modal interconnected electronic ticket system has served about 130,000 passengers moving within Ring Road 1 for free.
The multi-modal interconnected electronic ticket card system was put into operation by Hanoi City from June 25, 2026. Immediately after operation, the system automatically calculates the travel distance within Ring Road 1 to implement a free policy for people according to the Resolution of the Hanoi City People's Council, applied from July 1, 2026 to the end of June 30, 2027.
Director of Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center Thai Ho Phuong said that from July 1 to now, the multi-modal interconnected electronic ticket system has been positively received by people thanks to bringing many conveniences in the process of using the service. Statistics show that about 130,000 passengers have been exempted from travel fees within Ring Road 1.
According to Mr. Phuong, basically the system has met management requirements. However, during operation, there are still some cases where equipment at the exit door is not responsive, leading to delays in refunding money to passengers. The Center has recorded feedback and will continue to fine-tune to make the system operate more stably, more user-friendly, and at the same time add features suitable for practical operation.
In addition, the application of new technology needs time for passengers, especially the elderly, to get used to using virtual cards and citizen identification cards during bus trips. Therefore, the Center has extended the time of using the old free card model (without chip) until December 31, 2026, and at the same time deployed the issuance of free physical electronic cards with chips for subjects entitled to free policies when using subsidized buses in the city.
Also according to Mr. Thai Ho Phuong, putting the electronic ticket system into operation is the starting point in the digital transformation process of the smart transportation sector of the Capital.
In the next phase, the system will continue to be expanded, connected to other types of transportation and transportation services such as metro, public bicycles, taxis, technology cars, railways and aviation, towards forming an interconnected, convenient and seamless transportation ecosystem.
At the same time, traffic ticket cards will be developed into a multi-modal payment platform, integrating many essential urban services, contributing to building a more modern, convenient and connected digital environment for the people of the Capital.
