With a capacity to receive 5,000 tons of waste per day and night, Soc Son Waste Treatment Plant in Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex (Trung Gia Commune, Hanoi) is the largest waste-to-energy plant in Vietnam and the second largest in the world, demonstrating an important step forward in the strategy of greening waste treatment technology of Hanoi City.
The project was granted a construction permit and started in August 2019, with a capacity to process 5,000 tons of waste per day, generate 90 MW/hour, and apply Waterleau ( Belgian) mechanical incinerator technology - one of the world's leading advanced technologies, fully meeting the strict environmental standards of Europe and Vietnam.
The plant is operated according to international standards, ensuring absolute safety for the environment and public health; regularly applying advanced technology to improve processing efficiency, reduce emissions, save energy; at the same time, training a team of high-quality human resources, meeting modern management and operation requirements. The project also contributes positively to the budget, creating jobs for many local workers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh affirmed that the inauguration of Soc Son Waste-to-energy Plant is a historic milestone in the journey to build a green - clean - beautiful - civilized capital. This is not only a large-scale economic and technical project, but also demonstrates Hanoi's strong political determination in environmental protection, sustainable development and international integration.
Soc Son waste-to-energy plant is equipped with a leading modern technology line, helping to effectively treat waste, reduce pollution, and at the same time produce clean electricity to provide for tens of thousands of households in the capital. The operation of the plant is an important turning point in the management of domestic solid waste, realizing the goal of "turning waste into resources", contributing to building a circular economic model right in Hanoi.
