Due to both construction and infrastructure exploitation and weather impacts, some "blocks" serving the inner-city flood prevention project have not been dismantled as planned.
Although Hanoi City has exceeded the deadline to complete the dismantling of construction barriers before May 31, there are still some "blocks" occupying part of the roadway and sidewalk to serve the construction of flood prevention projects.
Reporters' records on Quang Trung street show that there are still 3-4 locations surrounded by corrugated iron fences. Inside these areas, machinery and construction materials are gathered and construction activities are still being implemented.
This is a road with a large traffic volume, connecting with many important traffic axes such as Tran Hung Dao, Ly Thuong Kiet and Hai Ba Trung. The continued occupation of part of the road and sidewalks has narrowed traffic space, especially during peak hours.
Representatives of the Hanoi Department of Construction said that the unit is urging the Technical Infrastructure Management Center and contractors to accelerate the construction progress and urgently complete the project to limit the impact on people's travel.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung - Director of Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure Management Center, the large workload and objective difficulties in weather, construction conditions and coordination between relevant units have caused the implementation progress at times not to meet the set requirements.
The Center has requested contractors to mobilize maximum manpower, machinery, and organize continuous construction to accelerate progress, while ensuring project quality and traffic safety. Field inspection and supervision are also strengthened to promptly handle arising problems and minimize impacts on people's lives and travel.
We apologize to the people for the inconveniences arising during the construction, repair and restoration of technical infrastructure on the route. The project is expected to be basically completed on June 6, 2026," Mr. Hung said.
