Previously, on the evening of July 2, prolonged rain caused some central roads and densely populated residential areas in Kon Tum ward to be flooded. Traffic was jammed, water overflowed into houses on both sides of the road. In some locations, the water was more than 1m high, and people's vehicles and vehicles were damaged and submerged in immense water.
According to Mr. Duong Anh Hung, that very night of heavy rain causing flooding, the ward leaders went to the scene to check and assess the situation. The flooding points were localized, and after about 45 minutes, the water began to recede.
Kon Tum Ward has directed the authorities to continue surveying and proposing investment in building a rainwater drainage system in the coming time.
The main cause of flooding is mainly due to unsynchronized investment in the infrastructure system since 1991 until now. Meanwhile, the urbanization rate is too fast, the traffic infrastructure and drainage system are not synchronous.
In October 2022, heavy rain also caused many inner-city roads in Kon Tum ward to be heavily flooded such as Tran Hung Dao, Phan Dinh Phung, Tran Phu... It is worth mentioning that Kon Tum is located on high terrain, near the Dak Bla river but is still flooded.
