On August 4, information from the leader of the People's Committee of Quynh Son commune (Nghe An province) said that a case of two children having just died from drowning had just occurred in the area.
According to initial information, at around 7:30 a.m. on August 3, N.M.P (born in 2015) and Vu N.N.H (born in 2016), both primary school students, residing in Hamlet 9, Quynh Son Commune, invited each other out.
At noon, not seeing their child return, the family panicked and organized a search, mobilized neighbors and reported to the local authorities.
At around 4pm, a group of students went to the puddle near the abandoned quarry in Hamlet 12 to swim when they suddenly discovered the bodies of the two students floating on the water. The students immediately shouted and nearby people quickly arrived at the scene to bring their bodies to shore.
The authorities of Quynh Son commune have coordinated with the family to complete legal procedures and organize a funeral according to local customs.
It is known that the area where the incident occurred was a deep water hole near the old quarry, without fences or warning signs of danger. Local authorities said they will review areas at risk of being unsafe, especially in the summer - when children often go out and bathe without adults supervising them.
