On the afternoon of August 6, Mr. Doan Van Phuong - Chairman of Quang Son commune (Lam Dong province) - confirmed that a tragic drowning incident had just occurred in the area, killing 2 children.
According to initial information, on the morning of the same day, the family of Mr. Thao A Phai (born 2001) and Mr. Thao A De (born 1976) took their children to the field in sub-zone 1693, Dak Snao village (Quang Son commune) to work.
At about 11:30 am, the 4 young children invited each other to the lake area on the coffee farm to play. While playing, the 2 children unfortunately slipped and fell into the lake. The other two children ran back to call adults for help.
When relatives arrived to bring the children ashore, both had not survived.
The two victims were identified as T.T. N. L (born 2019, 1st grade student) and T.T. M (born 2017, 3rd grade student) from Ly Tu Trong Primary School (Quang Son commune).
Immediately after the incident occurred, the Military Command of Quang Son commune coordinated with the Commune Police, local authorities and people to bring the victims' bodies to their families for funeral arrangements.
Leaders of Quang Son commune visited, expressed condolences and provided financial support to the families of the drowning victims.
According to statistics from functional agencies of Lam Dong province, from the beginning of 2026 to now, the whole province has recorded 24 drowning cases, claiming the lives of 29 children, equivalent to 90% of children dying from injuries.
Most recently, on July 31, 5 children invited each other to swim at a natural lake in Phi Mur village, Quang Khe commune.
At about 3 pm, a child in the group ran home to report to the family that two sisters N.T. T. (born 2017) and N.T. P. (born 2019) had drowned and died tragically.
The tragic incidents are a warning about the risk of drowning for children during the summer, especially in ponds, lakes, and water holes in agricultural production areas.
Functional sectors recommend that parents need to strengthen management, not let children play in areas at risk of unsafety without adult supervision.
