Hundreds of meters of seawall degraded and damaged
At the 18th session of the Hai Phong City People's Council, voters of Do Son district proposed to repair the long-degraded sea dyke system in Do Son tourist area. Accordingly, voters of Do Son district agreed with the city's policy of reclaiming land in areas 1 and 2 of Do Son tourist area to have land for tourism development. However, it will take a long time to implement the project. Meanwhile, the sea dyke and sidewalk system in this area is currently degraded, causing loss of aesthetics and potential safety risks during the rainy and stormy season. Voters suggested that the city pay attention to allocating annual funds to temporarily fix and repair the eroded and damaged sea dyke and sidewalk system.
Previously, Lao Dong reporters recorded that hundreds of meters of the embankment along the coastal road from area 1 to area 2 of Do Son beach were damaged and degraded. According to residents of area C54 Van Huong, the damaged sea embankment has been happening for many years and is getting worse. Without a protective embankment, on days when big waves hit the shore, water splashes onto the shore, overflowing onto the road, breaking many sections of sidewalk tiles.
Regarding this issue, the leader of the People's Committee of Do Son district also said: Many sections of the sea dyke in Do Son were broken due to the impact of storms and tropical depressions since 2021. The district has reported to the city and requested a policy to repair the dyke sections to ensure flood and storm prevention as well as the landscape of the tourist area. While waiting for the city to have specific instructions, with the broken dyke sections, the locality will temporarily install barriers to ensure the safety of people and tourists.
Investment in repair in 2025
In the document responding to voters' petitions, the Hai Phong City People's Committee informed that in order to ensure the landscape and safety of the sea dike system in Zone 1 and Zone 2 of Do Son Tourist Area, every year, the Department of Construction has organized inspections and coordinated with the Department of Finance to develop a plan to repair and maintain the sea dike system and the energy dissipation yard. In particular, in 2024, the units will repair 142 m2 of the energy dissipation yard in Zone 1 and have a plan to repair and maintain the sea dike in 2025 with a budget of about more than 2 billion VND.
Hai Phong City People's Committee also directed relevant departments, branches, units and localities to balance capital sources to repair and maintain the sea dike system to meet voters' requests.
Along with the maintenance and repair of the seawall, Hai Phong City has decided to invest in the project to expand Ly Thai To Street in Do Son Zone 1 and develop the surrounding area with a total investment of more than 300 billion VND. According to the proposal report of Do Son District People's Committee, the expansion of Ly Thai To Street (from 15.5 Square to the gate of Dragon Hill Project) and urban renovation of Zone 1 are necessary to ensure modern traffic infrastructure and organize convenient traffic in the area, avoiding local congestion during the tourist season.
