According to a report by hateco Group, the project of wharf No. 5 and No. 6 of Lach Huyen Port area invested by the investor has a total area of 73 hectares. The port is capable of receiving 2 large container ships of up to 200,000 DWT (18/000 TEU) at the same time, with a maximum length of 400 m. After more than 30 months of construction with more than 3 million safe working hours, the project was completed 2 months ahead of schedule.
On February 6, hateco Hai Phong International Container Port (HHIT) welcomed the first commercial ship. On April 5, the project was officially inaugurated. This is the first smart port in Vietnam with automatic gateways, semi-autonomous wharves, capable of receiving the world's largest ships and traveling directly from the farthest places such as the West Coast, the East Coast of the United States as well as Europe, India... Since officially coming into operation, the exploitation productivity at HHIT port has grown impressively, reaching 30 containers/hour.
hateco Group recommends that the City People's Committee soon start the investment project to build a traffic route behind the port from wharf No. 3 to wharf No. 6 and Tan Vu - Lach Huyen 2 bridge; promptly report and request the Ministry of Construction to urgently invest in expanding the Lach Huyen channel and add a train quay in front of wharves No. 5 and No. 6 to ensure the safety of 200,000 DWT ships entering and leaving the port. The city reviews and introduces the location of the site to help businesses invest in housing for experts, staff, employees, and workers working at ports and areas in Cat Hai special zone...
At the meeting, representatives of relevant departments and branches discussed and clarified the recommendations and proposals of hateco Group. Specifically, the transport route after the port from wharf No. 3 to wharf No. 6 is expected to start construction in August, the project investor committed to shortening the construction time to the maximum so that the project can be put into operation as soon as possible, creating convenience for vehicles entering and leaving the port. With the proposal to expand the Lach Huyen canal and add a train quay in front of wharves No. 5 and No. 6, the city proposed and the Ministry of Construction submitted to the Prime Minister, the project was included in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 submitted to the National Assembly for approval at the upcoming session.
With the proposal on investment location of housing areas for experts, workers, and laborers, the leaders of the Management Board of Economic Zones and Special Zones of Cat Hai introduced the locations for businesses to choose and decide on investment.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau suggested hateco Group and HHIT Port to closely coordinate with the City People's Committee, departments, branches and units to review and agree on reports, and request central ministries and branches to promptly implement investment projects in transport and maritime infrastructure to ensure effective exploitation and operation. The Chairman of the City People's Committee also suggested hateco Group to choose typical products and impressive models to participate in the city's exhibition area at the National Achievement Exhibition on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
