On August 29, news from the Hai Phong City People's Committee said that the Chairman of the City People's Committee had a working session to listen to relevant units at the meeting to hear reports on the investment plan for the Tan Vu - Lach Huyen 2 Bridge Construction Investment Project and the access roads at both ends of the bridge.
Accordingly, after listening to the Department of Transport and the consulting unit report on the proposed investment plan; opinions of the Departments, branches, agencies, and localities at the meeting, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung concluded: Agreeing to the investment policy of the Tan Vu - Lach Huyen 2 Bridge Investment Project, length 5,443m, width 16m, agreeing on the route according to the proposal of the consulting unit; Clearing the land according to the planning (roadbed width 68m).
Maintain the current median strip; Expand the roadbed in both directions, diversify investment and construction, and construct a roadbed with a width of 51m (motor vehicle lane 6x3.75=22.5m, mixed lane 4x3.5=14m, median strip 9m, secondary median strip 2x1.5=3m; safety strip 2x0.5+2x0.25=1.5m, earthen shoulder 2x0.5=1m); Invest in 3 different-level intersections at the route: Km2+800, Km10+800 and Km13+020.
The Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee assigned the Department of Transport to direct the consulting unit to: Complete the Project Proposal according to the above scale; Study more options: only invest in Tan Vu - Lach Huyen 2 bridge, keep the approach roads on both sides of the bridge as they are; evaluate, compare, propose, and report to the City People's Committee.
Tan Vu - Lach Huyen sea-crossing bridge connecting the mainland of Hai An district with Cat Hai island of Cat Hai district (Hai Phong) was inaugurated and put into use on the occasion of National Day September 2, 2017. Up to now, this is still the longest sea-crossing bridge in Vietnam.
After putting into use Tan Vu - Lach Huyen bridge and inaugurating 2 ports at Hai Phong International Gateway Port, along with tourism development in Cat Ba island, industrial development in Cat Hai island, the longest sea-crossing bridge in our country has been overloaded, therefore, Hai Phong City has had a policy to build a second bridge as mentioned above.
