Two women in Quang Ngai were picking seaweed when they were hit by a wave and slipped into the sea, leaving one dead and the other missing.

On the morning of January 8, Mr. Do Tam Hien - Secretary of Duc Pho City Party Committee, Quang Ngai - said that two local women went to collect seaweed on the rocky cliffs and unfortunately slipped into the sea. One died, one is missing.

At about 4:30 a.m. the same day, a group of women in Vinh Tuy village, Pho Chau commune, Duc Pho town rode motorbikes to Hoc Mo beach in Pho Thanh ward, Duc Pho town to pick seaweed jam.

While following the rocky cliffs to collect seaweed, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau (49 years old) and Ms. Le Thi Hong Thuy (51 years old), both living in Vinh Tuy village, Pho Chau commune, were hit by strong waves on the cliffs, causing both of them to slip and fall into the sea. Seeing the incident, a group of women scraping seaweed tried to save them. But at this time it was dark, the waves were strong, and they were helpless.

The incident was quickly reported to local authorities and local residents coordinated the search. By 9am the same day, Ms. Chau's body was recovered. Ms. Thuy is still missing. "The local authorities are supporting the family to bring Ms. Chau's body home for burial and are making efforts to find Ms. Thuy," said Mr. Hien.

Local authorities and organizations also came to the victim's house to share and encourage the victim's family and support the funeral.
