Binh Thanh District proposes to merge 15 wards down to 4 wards
The People's Committee of Binh Thanh District has just submitted to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Home Affairs a plan to rearrange administrative units.
According to the proposal, Binh Thanh District will merge 15 existing wards into 4 new wards.
Gia Dinh Ward: Established on the basis of merging Wards 1, 2, 12, 14 and part of Ward 26. After the merger, Gia Dinh ward has an area of 4.6 km2 with a population of more than 273,000 people.
Binh Hoa Ward: Merge Wards 5, 7, 11 and Ward 13, with an area of 4.4 km2 with a population of about 157,000 people.
Thanh My Tay Ward: Formed from the merger of Wards 17, 19 and 22, with an area of 3.2 km2 and a population of about 225,400 people.
Binh Quoi Ward: Established on the basis of merging Wards 25, 27, 28 and part of Ward 26 (including Quarters 10, 11, 12, 13,). After the arrangement, Binh Quoi ward has an area of 8.4 km2 with more than 110,000 people.
At the end of 2024, Binh Thanh District has reorganized 13 wards according to Resolution 1278 of the National Assembly Standing Committee.
The merged wards include: merging Ward 5 and part of Ward 6 into Ward2; merging Ward 7 and part of Ward 6 into Ward 7; merging Ward 11 and part of Ward 13 into Ward 11; merging Wards 2 and 15 into Ward 15; merging Wards 19 and 21 into Ward 19. 19, merging Wards 14 and 24 into Ward 24.
Go Vap District reorganizes 12 wards into 3 new wards
Similarly, the Standing Committee of the Go Vap District Party Committee has submitted to the Go Vap District Party Committee Executive Committee a plan to arrange the current 12 wards into 3 wards. There are 2 proposed options.
Option 1: According to this plan, 12 wards will be merged in the original state into 3 larger wards.
Go Vap Ward: Formed from the merger of Wards 1, 3, 5, 10. The ward has an area of 6.6 km2, population of about 242,151 people.
An Nhon Ward: Merging Wards 6, 15, 16, 17. The ward has an area of 6.1 km2, population of about 200,528 people.
Thong Tay Hoi Ward: Merge Wards 8, 11, 12, 14. The ward has an area of 7.05 km2, population of about 250,839 people.
Option 2: In this option, there will be adjustments to the administrative boundaries of some wards.
Go Vap Ward: Merge the entire area of Wards 1, 5, 6, most of Ward 3 and part of Ward 17. The ward has an area of 7.14 km2, population of about 257,023 people.
Thong Tay Hoi Ward: Merge the entire area of Wards 10, 11, 15, 16, a small part of Ward 3 and a part of Ward 17. The ward has an area of 6.78 km2, population of about 243,523 people.
An Hoi Ward: Including the entire area of Wards 8, 12, 14. The ward has an area of 5.81 km2, population of about 193,072 people.

At the end of 2024, Go Vap district also reorganized 8 wards into 4 wards according to Resolution 1278, including: merging Wards 1, 4 and 7 into Ward 1; merging Wards 8 and 9 into Ward 8; merging Ward 14 and part of Ward 13 into Ward 14; merging Ward 15 and part of Ward 13 into Ward 15.
District 1 studies two options for merging wards
In addition to Binh Thanh and Go Vap, District 1 is also studying a plan to rearrange 10 current wards, including Ben Nghe, Ben Thanh, Co Giang, Cau Kho, Cau Ong Lanh, Nguyen Cu Trinh, Nguyen Thai Binh, Pham Ngu Lao, Tan Dinh and Da Kao.
The two proposed options are as follows:
Option 1: Merge three wards of Da Kao, Tan Dinh and Ben Nghe into Ben Nghe ward; the remaining seven wards will merge into Ben Thanh ward. This option has the advantage of keeping administrative boundaries unchanged, making it easier to manage.
Option 2: Divide District 1 into three wards along the main road, however, it will be necessary to adjust administrative boundaries, which may lead to the situation of some wards being cut off.
