On March 30, the Standing Office of Vinasarcom in Dak Lak province said that since the beginning of the year, the water level on rivers in the province has tended to decrease.
At the end of the dry season, some small rivers and streams are at risk of drying up, leading to local droughts in some localities.
It is expected that more than 4,500 hectares of short-term crops will be affected by drought, mainly concentrated in Buon Don, Lak, Ea Sup, Krong Pac, Krong Ana, Cu Kuin and Cu M'gar districts.
For long-term crops such as coffee, pepper, and fruit trees, the area of drought is estimated at about 1,500 hectares, mainly in Krong Buk, Krong Nang, Buon Don, Cu M'gar districts and Buon Ho town.
In addition, many people in Ea Sup, Cu M'gar districts... are lacking clean water for daily use.
According to statistics from the Dak Lak Provincial Irrigation Department, the whole province has 880 irrigation works, including 623 reservoirs with a total capacity of more than 650 million m3, 168 dams, 88 pumping stations and 2 dykes.
Currently, the irrigation system ensures proactive irrigation for 84.45% of crops with water needs for irrigation.
In the dry season of 2024, in Dak Lak province, about 27,284 hectares of crops of all kinds are affected by drought and lack of water.
Of which, 1,453 hectares were lost, 20,290 hectares suffered damage ranging from 30 to 70%... The estimated damage is more than 165 billion VND.
