According to the Lao Cai Road Maintenance Management Board, from 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM on September 15, floods caused damage in many locations on the national highway system, provincial roads and local roads managed and maintained by the Department of Construction.
Notably, at about 5 am, at Km 265+900 National Highway 32, belonging to Tu Le commune, soil and rocks from the positive slope slid down the road surface, causing traffic obstruction. Road management units immediately mobilized manpower and machinery to handle it. By 8:45 am on the same day, the road was reopened to traffic.
At about 6 am, at Km 28+500 connecting National Highway 32 to Provincial Road 174, belonging to Phinh Ho commune, mud and soil from the positive taluy spilled onto the road surface. The forces urgently cleaned up.
Preliminary statistics show that rain and floods have caused landslides of about 1,776m3 of soil and rock, including about 818m3 of national highways and about 958m3 of local roads.
About 164m3 of mud spilled into longitudinal ditches; negative taluy landslide of about 10m; roadside damage of about 1,656m3 and road surface of about 11,484m2.
On National Highway 32, 6 positive taluy landslide locations were recorded with a total volume of about 755.9m3, along with many points of mud overflowing longitudinal ditches and one negative taluy landslide location about 10m long. National Highway 37 also has landslide points and mud overflowing ditches.
At the provincial road system, DT170 has damaged sidewalks at 75 locations with about 1,656m3 and damaged road surfaces at 60 locations, with an area of about 11,484m2. DT174 route has many points of positive taluy landslides, mud overflowing into longitudinal ditches.
Landslides also occurred on DT175B, Tram Tau - Bac Yen, Van Chan - Yen Lap routes and the route connecting National Highway 32 to Provincial Road 174.
The total value of damage is estimated by the Lao Cai Road Maintenance Management Board at about 2.968 billion VND. Of which, damage on national highways is about 152 million VND; provincial roads and local roads are about 2.816 billion VND.
Immediately after the incident occurred, maintenance contractors and road management units were mobilized with manpower and vehicles to urgently handle it.
At dangerous locations, functional forces stretched reflective ropes, placed warning signs, and at the same time increased machinery and personnel to soon overcome landslides and ensure safe traffic.
