Gia Lai - When there are storms, the owners of hydroelectric reservoirs have to release floodwaters at each level to avoid causing damage to people and property in the downstream area.

On November 5, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - and the working group inspected the operation of reservoirs and inter-reservoir systems of An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower Company to respond to storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi).

The two reservoirs of Ka Nak and An Khe have large capacity in Gia Lai. Ka Nak Lake has a useful capacity of over 285 million m3, currently the total flood prevention capacity in the lake is 90.5 million m3; the water flow to the lake is 35.8 m3/s, and the spillway has not yet been discharged. An Khe reservoir has a useful capacity of 5.6 million m3, the total flood prevention capacity is 0.33 million m3.

At the same time, she requested An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower Company to continue monitoring the situation of storms and floods and strictly comply with the procedures for operating reservoirs and inter-reservoirs; ensure the operation of automatic monitoring stations and automatic notification systems.

Hydropower reservoir owners must coordinate and closely contact with sectors and localities in the downstream area when operating flood discharge at each level; promptly notify people to respond and support localities in evacuating people and property to safe places.

Along with that, An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower Plant needs to set the worst situation to have a response and handling plan, not to cause any human casualties and minimize property damage caused by flood discharge.
